A Look at Front-Wheel Drive Axles

Last updated 5 years ago

Front-wheel drive vehicles generally provide better gas mileage, but the front axles are more mechanically complex since the wheels must propel and turn the vehicle without a loss in performance. Take a look at this brief video guide for a breakdown of front-wheel drive axles.

CV joints are actually a set of outer and inner joints. The outer joint pivots as the wheel angles on turns and bumps, while the transaxle side telescopes in and out slightly. Worn CV joints will make clicking or popping noises during tight turns.
